There are 3 that fight within us, God, ourselves and the devil.
I always used to think, Dang it, it's me against God. Nice trick satan, cause it was never supposed to be like that. It was supposed to be , God and I against satan. In fact, satan is supposed to be a non-factor; truly the snake biting at our heels and us striking back, crushing his head as was told in Genesis (3:15)
The book "Wild At Heart" is one I'm still reading (almost 2 months at it now). It is a hard book for me. Right now, I'm reading chapter Nine titled : "A Battle To Fight: The Strategy"
I hope this makes sense, but what it says is that the devil wants you to think: " I'm (the devil) not here-this is all just you" What does it mean? Read 1 Peter 5:8-9. Still nothing? We are under Spiritual attack . It's not just some nerf toy bow and arrow, it's cutting, biting, cold, hard misguided truths, lies, and honey-tasting, poisoned darts .
What is one of these darts? The past. "you will never get over the past"
Is this true? Yes, only because we don't get over, we get through. One thing I have been and am still learning, is that in order to learn and heal from the past I/we don't have to keep reliving it . Most times, we relive it within ourselves and that causes us to see it all around, we see nothing else, we can't move forward. Like a story teller, the devil reminds us of pain and hurt and sin.The devil picks the parts that help make his story better for himself, gets him in it like a shadow, never really noticed, so that we see what he wants us to see (so we end up fighting 2 beings, ourselves and the devil). Then, we get lost in the tale, and the devil plays us like a piano, taking the notes he wants to sound in us making his own melody so far away from the one that is meant to be and so much more.
How do we battle this ? A wiser person than I told me this.:
"Concentrate on God's forgiveness and hold on to His love. No you don't have to keep going back, but Satan knows that is our weakness, so he will do whatever it takes to remind us of our past, so that our guilt will not help us move forward. Prove satan wrong with the power of God. You can do it with the power of the Lord, so don't let satan take your focus from the Lord."
That is how we get through, not over, but through. God doesn't go around problems with us, He goes through them. Actually going through it , like a miner goes through a mountain, for that is what the past/problems/sins really are, they block our view and if we go around them, we have only lost time and energy and done it the wrong way (satan makes a "nice" walkway around and around the mountain, easy feeling and pretty looking), so we think " I did it", or maybe the devil will even encourage you to say, " God helped". what we really have gotten is nowhere or nothing in return, for it will always be in our view, never conquered, yet always there. As we add to it, and it becomes larger and larger.
Only God's boundless Love and Forgiveness, to us and others, helps us to also love and forgive both ourselves and others. To go through, to face it and conquer, demolish it and pulverize it, no matter how big it seems. That way, when we look back, we don't see what was, but what is not anymore, I don't have to relive it anymore, be lost by/on it, went through it already. Now God can show me where I need to grow and what changes He has made and where the devil was trying to play his own notes with us and destroy God's creation and whom He loves (Us) . Where satan was trying to decieve and kill us.
Watch out for the darts .....
